ABOUT THE SONG
“I’m fond of the plucked Chinese instruments, especially PiPa and GuZheng, for they are
embedded with Chinese flavour and can be both heavy and smooth. Influenced by Lin-Hai's
album, Wang is inspired to use PiPa as the main instrument to create a "new classical
Chinese music". Majored in Electronic Music Composition, this is a challenge to both the
techniques and creativity.
Chattering Strings uses
as the motif and is applied with traditional and electronic
music elements
throughout the song.
The breakdown of this work: The first part is as a presentation. The use of electro-vocal as an
allegory for the upcoming vocal part. The second part emphasizes the traditional scale and
infuses with pop/electro/ethnic elements with a few vocal and dizi as the means for mood
expression, and to enrich the musical language, and to counter and encounter the first part.
The 3rd part comes as the echo, the image and melody of the first part and the second part
come together in the 3rd part. “
Chattering Strings by Seehom Wong(王熙皓)
2012 KONGAUDIO-MIDIFAN Competition
"The bold strings—they pattered like the dashing rain,
The fine strings—they sounded like the lovers’ whispers.
Chattering and pattering, pattering and chattering——
As pearls, large and small, on a jade platter fall."
A famous poem by Bai Juyi (A.D.772 –846)
